Inheritance Tax

Inheritance Tax is the most avoidable tax of them all.

Not everyone has to pay inheritance tax, it is only payable if an estate including assets held in trusts or gifts made within 7 years of death has a value above the current tax threshold of £325,000 if single/divorced or £650,000 if married/civil partnership/widowed (2013-2014).
Most estates are valued under the threshold therefore don’t need to pay tax. However for those who do fall into this category the tax is payable at 40% on the amount, or at 36% if the estate qualifies for tax at a reduced rate this could be due to charitable donation.

Use our Inheritance Tax Calculator to sum up a guide value of your estate therefore showing whether you are above the threshold for Inheritance Tax.
